STATEMENT
In general my work is driven by a desire to expose or make seen facets of our culture. I begin with an idea or a belief that I feel strongly about and I build a body of work that addresses multiple positions of a single concept. My work changes as my life, my environment, and my outlook change. Once I have exhausted all I have to say I find a new cause of interest and begin to pursue it whole-heartedly. As an artist I feel that it is my responsibility to have something to say and contribute to the conversations and issues in our society. I don’t believe that there is anything new under the sun but I do think that our personal experiences and the way we coalesce ideas can be distinctive and innovative. My work comes from a need to draw attention to aspects of our cultural or environmental that may go disregarded and acts as a platform for me to voice my personal opinions and support a cause.
The materials used in my work are delineated by the concept of piece, which can lead me to sculpture, installations, paintings, drawings, and graphics. My work is often site-specific or time-specific. Some common divergent themes in my work are: urban and rural, the digital landscape in relation to home and memory, acceptance and tolerance in light of racism and prejudice.
