The two crickets are powered by a 9V battery and they chirp based on the ambient light in their surroundings, the darker the space the more rapidly they chirp. The cricket box is indicative of the artist upbringing near Herrington Lake in Kentucky and the cages used when keeping crickets for bait when fishing.
